I was reading a neat article tonight that outlined some new studies and stats regarding search engines and their users. This just truley shows you how important search position is. Some of the key points were:
- 1) For the most part users searching for something will only go 3 pages deep
- 2) 1/3 of the users link companies on the first page of search results to top brands
- 3) 63% of people will click on a result on the first page of search results.
- 4) 41% of users will switch search engines if they dont find what they are looking for on the 1st page of search results.
Google still has the market share for search and now that they have purchased Orion who knows what will be in store. I was able to attend
the last Webmaster World
pubcon and at this they showcased
MSN's new search It looks powerful
and very cool and with the times. It is in beta. I especially like the fact that there is no paging anymore. Paging looks to be handled with Ajax.
An interesting quote I thought was good:
"It's time that companies that are refreshing, re-designing, or launching a new website start with the end in mind. If no one can find it, no one will use it."
